Learning Objectives

Participants will learn to:

  1. Conceptualize client distress and change based on theories of attachment science and the process of emotion.

  2. Describe the key elements of the attachment perspective on personality and its significance for clinical intervention

  3. Build a safe therapeutic alliance utilizing finely tuned validation, normalization, and focused attunement. 

  4. Set out clients within and between cycles and how they create each other and link to presenting problems that manifest as emotional disorders

  5. Describe the core components of emotional disorders – depression and anxiety

  6. Outline the process of change and the elements of the EFT Tango to shape corrective emotional experience, such as affect assembly and deepening

  7. Use the EFT Tango to help clients gain more insight into their inner world and gradually develop more flexibility with habitual responses. 

  8. Describe the micro-interventions used by the EFT therapist

  9. Outline the applicability of EFIT for different clients with different symptomatology.

  10. Adopt an attachment humanistic perspective on clients, problems and interventions

  11. Discover and distill core emotional experiences and promote emotional balance

  12. Outline protective, self-defining and interactional iatrogenic patterns

  13. Implement the 5 moves of the EFT Tango to shape corrective emotional experience and EFT micro-interventions.

  14. Choreograph dramas that expand the self and open engagement with others

  15. Help clients gain awareness and access to previously disowned parts and support self acceptance. 

  16. Integrate corrective emotional experiences into models of self and other

  17. Validate the client’s sense of competence and worth in every session.

  18. Move clients beyond just coping to a place of resilience where they can thrive and actively engage with life and people.
