Integrating Sex and Sexuality in EFT Couples Work

Join Dr. Silvina Irwin and Dr. Lisa Blum for a 2-Day workshop in February with the Québec community to learn how to shape secure sexual connection with Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy. Sometimes talking isn't enough for couples to find their way into secure sexual connection. We will explore how attachment and sex go together, foundational information about sexuality, the impact of shame and trauma on sexuality, and how to integrate somatic/body based encounters to help couples struggling with this important part of their relationship.
Facilitated in English with simultaneous translation in French.
Participants will be able to:
Analyze a couple’s sexual relationship distress from an attachment frame, and outline a couple’s negative sexual cycle.
Describe good process and relevant content for taking a thorough sexual history.
Identify 2 or more models of sexual engagement and response, including the Dual Control Model of Sexuality.
Outline interventions to help couples restart “safe touch”, including Sensate Focus and other mindful touch interventions.
List markers within the clinical process that indicate good timing to introduce touch exercises.
Outline an approach to introduce and process with a couple their sexual touch exercises for maximum effectiveness.
Demonstrate increased self-awareness of possible blocks to one’s own comfort and flexibility in processing sexual content in couples therapy.
This training will be recognized for Continuing Education by the Order of Psychologists of Québec (OPQ). A certificate of participation including the OPQ recognition number will be given to participants.
Continuing Education credits for US-based therapists will be provided by Illuminated Education. Participants can purchase 12.5 CE credits in the amount of $42 CAD (txs incl.).
